Cardiology Services

Diagnostic Testing

The first step in any treatment program is gaining a complete understanding of each patient’s cardiovascular health. That’s why Dr. Sarabi feels it’s critical to provide detailed evaluations and screening processes to rule out concerns or identify unique irregularities present that may otherwise go undetected. He uses many of the latest technologies including advanced cardiac imaging (Cardiac CT and MRI), echocardiography / transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), stress echocardiogram, nuclear and treadmill stress tests to diagnose cardiac diseases and conditions. With six board certifications – four in the field of Advanced Cardiac Imaging – Dr. Sarabi provides world class care in his approach to your health, insuring that only the most appropriate diagnostic tests are performed.

Cardioversion

For the treatment of heart arrhythmia, Dr. Sarabi can use a combination of medical and electrical therapies to return the heart to its normal sinus rhythm. Synchronized electrical cardioversion acts to “reset” the electrical signal that causes the heart to beat out of rhythm. Antiarrhythmic drugs may be administered before or after an electrical cardioversion treatment, and also may be prescribed on their own when medical management of the arrhythmia alone is likely to be successful.

Scientific Lifestyle Modification

Almost everyone wants to eat a more healthful diet and exercise more frequently. But often, we lack the resources and tools to follow through with plans to lead a healthier lifestyle. Dr. Sarabi’s Preventive Cardiac Care Program (based on extensive research that led to his dissertation and Ph.D. title) is tailored to the needs of each patient. Along with his office staff, he helps patients execute a plan for a proper diet and increased exercise that will help manage the symptoms of their specific condition.

General & Preoperative Consultation

Dr. Sarabi is invested in creating positive outcomes for each and every patient. He is available for general consultations to review patient medical history, perform diagnostic tests, and discuss treatment options prior to surgery. During a preoperative consultation, he performs a detailed evaluation and works closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other medical personnel to successfully treat cardiac conditions before surgery.

Cardiology Specialties

Cardiovascular Diseases

Dr. Sarabi specializes in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, which can lead to conditions such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure, arrhythmia and valve abnormalities many of which are often rooted in the buildup of plaque on the interior walls of the blood vessels (a process known as atherosclerosis).

Effective treatment of cardiovascular diseases often requires a multi-layered approach. Treatments can become highly complex, particularly since patients with cardiovascular disease are at increased risk for developing such a wide range of conditions with diverse symptoms. Dr. Sarabi’s decades of training and experience equip him to offer highly knowledgeable treatment.

Echocardiography

An echocardiogram (also known as an ECHO) is a painless test that uses sound waves to show the beating heart. It is used to assess how effectively the heart's chambers and valves are working, and to spot areas of weakness in the heart muscle.

Echocardiography also can detect possible blood clots and fluid buildup in the sac that surrounds the heart (the pericardium).

Nuclear Cardiology

Nuclear heart scans are performed using a safe, radioactive material called a tracer that is injected into the bloodstream. The tracer releases a small amount of energy, which is detected by a camera outside the body and translated into a picture of the heart.

Dr. Sarabi uses nuclear cardiology testing to provide information about the flow of blood throughout the heart muscle, to detect damaged areas of heart muscle, and to assess how efficiently blood is being pumped through the heart.

Cardiac CT Angiography

The "CT" in the name of this test stands for computed tomography. The test uses an x-ray machine to painlessly take detailed, multi-dimensional pictures of the heart.

A cardiac CT angiogram can reveal blockages and buildup in the coronary arteries, problems with heart function and heart valves, aortic aneurysms (diseased areas of artery) or aortic dissections (areas where layers of the artery separate from one another), blood clots in the lungs, and diseases of the pericardium (the sac around the heart).

Cardiac MRI

A cardiac MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) test uses radio waves, magnets and a computer to create pictures of the beating heart without using any radioactive injections like some other tests require.

A cardiac MRI can be used to diagnose certain coronary heart disease, heart muscle damage, heart failure, valve disorders, tumors, congenital heart defects and other conditions. It is often used to further explain results seen in an ECHO or CT scan.

Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine

While there are many advanced treatments for coronary diseases, prevention really does remain the best medicine. Even for patients who already have cardiovascular disease, its progression can be slowed significantly through management of risk factors.

Dr. Sarabi offers both primary and secondary prevention services. Primary prevention focuses on halting heart and blood vessel diseases without surgery, and before a serious event such as a heart attack or stroke occurs. For patients who have had surgery or a coronary event, secondary prevention strategies are geared toward managing symptoms and reducing the risk of further harm.

Internal Medicine

Many people living with cardiovascular disease are also being treated for other diseases. Dr. Sarabi uses his experience in internal medicine to create treatment plans together with patient’s primary doctor that can manage a range of symptoms successfully. He is an accomplished internist who has researched the treatment and prevention of many medical conditions associated with heart disease. He is a strong advocate of disease prevention through education and early detection.
